Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc. welcomes Malia Coffee Co. to Hāliʻimaile Town with the opening of its first location, The Kettle. Founded by Maui local Makena Jost, Malia Coffee Co. brings world-class brews and a community-focused gathering place to Upcountry Maui. The new cafe joins a growing list of local businesses operating on land stewarded by Maui Land & Pineapple Co. as part of its efforts to maximize the productive use of its properties in a way that supports Maui’s community.
“We love seeing a locally owned business take root in such a special community,” said Dean Frampton, VP of Land and Natural Resources for Maui Land & Pineapple Company. “Malia Coffee is the perfect example of local businesses we’re looking for to enrich daily life for Upcountry residents and create gathering places that bring people together.”

For Jost, the name Malia carries deep personal meaning. It is his sister’s name, his mother’s middle name, and his late sister’s middle name. Most importantly, it serves as a tribute to his mother, whose hard work and support helped shape the path that led to this moment. With that legacy at its heart, Malia Coffee Co. partners with Maui’s top local roasters to deliver freshly roasted, responsibly sourced coffee that’s crafted with care.
“My vision for Malia Coffee Co. was to work with the island’s coffee community and take it up a notch so that we’re serving premium coffee with every cup,” said Jost. “We’re also building out the drive-through and community space to make it more enjoyable for everyone, from Hāliʻimaile to Haʻikū.”
The Kettle’s menu features pour-overs, lattes, iced specialties and smoothies alongside food favorites such as breakfast sandwiches, banana bread and overnight oats. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., it has quickly become a stop for residents and visitors to enjoy quality coffee and food in the heart of Hāliʻimaile.
