ML&P’s VISION

Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc.’s (ML&P) vision is to create and manage holistic communities that integrate agriculture, wise stewardship of natural resources and eco-effective design principles to build a sustainable future for Maui. These holistic communities are intended to foster an authentic sense of place and a strong feeling of belonging, mutual obligation and respect. They are designed to value and protect the natural environment, while supporting the cultivation of fresh, healthy, homegrown foods that seek to contribute to Maui’s economic health and agricultural character, thus reducing our dependence on imports.

ML&P’s vision rests on a foundation of the four cornerstones underlying all holistic communities. These cornerstones are authenticity, inclusiveness, sustainability and ecosensitivity.

Authenticity Staying true to Maui’s unique cultural and architectural history and treating the island’s sacred areas with respect and awe. Inclusiveness Remembering that multiculturalism is the essence of this island and its people, as Maui has welcomed new residents from all over the world for centuries.

Sustainability Continuing the cultivation of prime agricultural lands to maintain Maui’s rural character and to rediscover how to feed ourselves. Eco-sensitivity Carefully maintaining Maui’s natural beauty, biological diversity and fragile ecosystems for the next generation.

ML&P’s activities are guided by three interdependent values of equity, economy and ecology. These values are drawn from the traditional Hawaiian concepts of Ho`ohanohano, Po`okela, and Malama`aina.

Ho‘ohanohano instructs the Company to conduct itself with distinction as a member of the larger, interdependent community of Maui and the state of Hawai`i. Po‘okela directs the Company to excel by providing the best services and products to win recognition and distinction in the marketplace. Malama‘aina guides the Company to care for and protect Maui’s agricultural and conservation lands.
