Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc. (ML&P) is preparing to cultivate its next 100 years with a commitment to developing innovative solutions to the shifting demands of a changing world. Integrating agriculture, wise stewardship of natural resources and eco-effective design principles, ML&P is striving to create and manage holistic communities that build a sustainable future for Maui.
ML&P is dedicated to harmonizing and integrating the activities of its two principal wholly owned subsidiaries, Maui Pineapple Company, Ltd. and Kapalua Land Company, Ltd., to make this vision a reality. Acting as one company with one vision and one set of values, ML&P is working to achieve great results that seek to contribute to the economic, social and environmental health of both the Company and the greater Maui community. Maui Pineapple Company, Ltd. (MPC) is focused on contributing to the development of sustainable agriculture and our ability to feed ourselves here in Hawai`i. MPC cultivates three varieties of pineapple: traditional Champaka, new extra-sweet Hawaiian Gold® and Maui Organic Pineapple. The Company operates the country’s only pineapple cannery, which processes 100% Hawaiian canned pineapple. MPC aims to secure its position in the fast-evolving agricultural sector and ensure the sustainability of its operations by placing a greater emphasis on fresh and organic pineapple, and by cultivating a more diverse selection of crops. MPC also hopes to contribute to Maui’s overall economic health and lasting rural character by becoming a “grower of growers.” This includes building partnerships with other Maui farmers, encouraging high school and university students of agriculture through internships and supporting local agricultural initiatives. Kapalua Land Company, Ltd. (KLC) is at the forefront of the creation and management of holistic communities on Maui. KLC manages the Kapalua Resort community, a pioneering example of a world-class master-planned resort development that respects our local cultural heritage and natural environment. The Resort is the centerpiece of ML&P’s 23,000 acres of West Maui land holdings, which are dedicated primarily to conservation and pineapple cultivation. The Resort is home to The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua; two vacation rental programs, The Kapalua Villas and Kapalua Luxury Homes; two championship golf courses and integrated residential communities. It is also host to a signature series of world-renowned annual events. To achieve ML&P’s goal of creating a model holistic community in West Maui and to maintain the Resort community’s vitality, KLC is developing new initiatives to advance the Resort’s excellence and popularity, while planning to expand the Resort community with development of the Kapalua Mauka area.
ML&P manages the Pu`u Kukui Watershed Preserve, which the Company created in 1988. This is the largest private preserve in the state of Hawai`i, protecting 9,881 acres of pristine natural habitat at the summit of the West Maui Mountains. Through management of the Preserve and participation in the West Maui Mountains Watershed Partnership, ML&P seeks to contribute to the health of a vital water source and a biologically unique area with over 30 rare and endangered native plant species. |
